You can't do only one thing. A policy of sticking it to people who plan to retire sends the message that it's safer to blindside you than to give you a long transition period.

As a people manager, I would be reserving any pay increases for the staff that stays. Plus if there are any RIF activities you would be first on the list regardless of whether or not you are their number 1 player. What if you change your mind? Your employer will have that lingering thought in their minds that you could be a short timer. At my place we cant refill a position until its been vacated, no overlaps.
