Or like me, I informed my manager in February that I was going to retire in June. My manager either forgot about it or he did not take me seriously. As June drew closer, something came up in our conversation about my retirement. My manager said, "you really are going to retire?!" I said yes. The company ended up asking me to stay on in a part-time role. That part-time role is now indefinite, as there is a hiring freeze.
Part-time is a mixed bag of blessings. The extra income is nice. But the headaches and stress, I was hoping to have behind me by now. All in all, I am happy and satisfied with the situation.
