I don't know the product well enough. IDMS has FIND / GET for a record. IMS
has GET (unique, next, within parent) etc.

You could design a single segment database and access each segment(record)
by key. I guess you would call that VSAM KSDS.

My tongue in cheek reference to SQL was that it's not the animal first
delivered now. So many extensions and fiddles to make it work tolerably. I
don't believe that any RDB follows Codd's rules.

It's why the average DBA spends most of their time tuning, reorganising and
berating programmers. Where is the self-reorganising database? I know that
Joe Lynn at CA hinted at this for Datacom/DB.
