What is the use case? Why would you not simply delete it? -- Shmuel (Seymour J.) Metz http://mason.gmu.edu/~smetz3 עַם יִשְׂרָאֵל חַי נֵ֣צַח יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לֹ֥א יְשַׁקֵּ֖ר

Here is what you can do. The SMS bit on the Format-1 VTOC entry for the dataset is the X’80’ bit at +4E in the Format-1 VTOC entry. Turn that bit off and then you can uncatalog that dataset, even though it is on an SMS pack. How? Need a tool? There are several. One is Fullscreen ZAP (source on CBT File 300, load on File 135). Another tool is a late version of the CDSCB TSO command with the NOSMS keyword that turns this bit off (CBT File 300). Hope this can get you out of a potentially sticky situation. It’s a trick that is nice to know. All the best of everything to all of you.
