Dear Folks,
Did you ever have trouble while moving datasets around, and they landed on an
SMS pack so you couldn’t uncatalog them? Here is what you can do.
The SMS bit on the Format-1 VTOC entry for the dataset is the X’80’ bit at +4E
in the Format-1 VTOC entry. Turn that bit off and then you can uncatalog that
dataset, even though it is on an SMS pack.
How? Need a tool? There are several.
One is Fullscreen ZAP (source on CBT File 300, load on File 135).
Another tool is a late version of the CDSCB TSO command with the NOSMS keyword
that turns this bit off (CBT File 300).
Hope this can get you out of a potentially sticky situation. It’s a trick that
is nice to know.
