The way may depend on your "paranoid level" and authorities you have (assumed it's company managed equipment).

1. For high security start from bitlocker or LUKS for Linux. However it is not required IMHO. Caution: proceed to next step. 2. Download gparted on LiveUSB - a bootable from USB stick. This software can remove, create, delete partitions. In case of bitlocker it would be enough to create and format some new partitions, but you can also wipe partition data. Or use all the methods one after another. 3. Assuming you have no admin rights and you cannot boot from USB - change CMOS settings (aka BIOS setup). Password is not a problem, because it can be reset. And this is the only vendor-specific section.

Disclaimer: it is up to you and your company what actions are allowed or what actions you are going to perform.

Good Day To All,
Can anybody suggest how I can delete all the files, software etc. from an
old laptop before I scrap it?  The laptop in question is a DELL VISTA.  I asked
the experts at DELL but they couldn't tell me because of a lack of
documentation.
Thanks.
Willie
