By "running" I'm referring to the IBM OS that will load and use the load
module, not to the system used to transport it. AFAIK IEBCOPY load does not
depend on recognizing the source device type.

Given that the OS/360 turnkey system supports 3330, why the concern for 2314?

So there is no question of "supported system". The only
question is "which virtual supported system" do you wish
to emulate? It can emulate a 2314, a 3330, a 3390. It's up
to me to specify "user requirements".

It will almost certainly be 3390 to 3390, but I see no reason not
to use a blocksize of 6144 - IBM products are normally/often/
traditionally distributed with such a "universal block size".

And then yes - it could be restored even to a 2314.

Although I am still unsure about something.

Is it correct that an unloaded 3390-residing load module on a
modified MVS 3..8 system with a block size of 6144 can be loaded
to say a 3330 on an unmodified MVS 3.8 system (that knows
nothing about 3390) because the required device characteristics
are self-contained in the IEBCOPY unload format and IEBCOPY can
thus deal with unknown devices?

Thanks. Paul.
