My z/OS 1.12 order was about a 10Gb download, but you need room for SMPE to unpack them too(which can be a different filesystem than the download). I usually allocate a 50Gb filesystem for my z/os download, and then once I have completed the serverpack jobs, I delete the entire thing. Probably overkill, I think the manual suggests 1.5 to 2.0 times the size of your order. Once you place your order, and it is fulfilled, one of the documents on Shopz will tell you how large your order is.

It turns out doing it this way has financial advantages for us, because if anything physical is shipped with z/OS it is subject to State sales/use tax while with purely electronic transfer it is not. Unlike some times in past years, we have the 3390 DASD to spare; but its nice to know there are other options with NFS.
