My z/OS 1.12 order was about a 10Gb download, but you need room for SMPE
to unpack them too(which can be a different filesystem than the
download). I usually allocate a 50Gb filesystem for my z/os download,
and then once I have completed the serverpack jobs, I delete the entire
thing. Probably overkill, I think the manual suggests 1.5 to 2.0 times
the size of your order. Once you place your order, and it is
fulfilled, one of the documents on Shopz will tell you how large your
order is.

Subject: Re: download 1.12 from internet

They're not talking about the size of root but about the size of the
entire z/OS distribution -- the download that replaces the z/OS
distribution tape, and which if done on z/OS goes into ZFS file space.

z/OS 1.12 will be the first release for us for which download is an
option. It turns out doing it this way has financial advantages for us,

because if anything physical is shipped with z/OS it is subject to State

sales/use tax while with purely electronic transfer it is not. Unlike
some times in past years, we have the 3390 DASD to spare; but its nice
to know there are other options with NFS.
