While I greatly appreciate the effort you put into this, I am afraid that your level of expertise far exceeds my current hugin capabilities. Thus, I can not even begin to replicate what you did based on your description. Following Thomas' suggestion, changing the lens to rectilinear seems to create a satisfactory result.
