I'm not saying that LetoDB works everywhere correctly
But this is the replacement of ADS, which is at least as it works (and
which can be completed).
Unlike NETIO and CDXDBF, which are compatible with the clipper, and
so forth,
but in real applications are not applicable (I do not think that the
destruction of the
tables and indexes in networking someone brings delight)
(Show me alternative, our project under GPL and we cannot use a paid
software)
I think the point of the e-mail wasn't about alternatives, but
rather the technical analysis of LetoDB. The fact that we don't
have any other free alternatives cannot clear up technical
concerns. This would be burying our head in the sand.
I hope eventually there will be a proper alternative,
although I personally believe in moving the whole app
server side in a thin/UI-client fashion. Even ADS/LetoDB
cannot work well through slow connections, which is a real
limitation.
BTW, plain DBFCDX works solid on LANs and without
the bugs present in Clipper implementation. Of course I'd
be also much happier if I wouldn't have to count on network
hardware stability for a stable database. Sometimes
networks fail and they are not under app developers'
control.

2009/10/5 Viktor Szakáts <harbour...@syenar.hu>:
What you say is that "it works for me" which is not an indication
of quality, nor design, nor proven stability, etcetc.
TBROWSE() comes to mind as an example, which also "worked for me"
for a lot of ppl, yet it had to be reimplemented from scratch
(which a huge amount of testing and work investment) to
*really* make it work, not "just for me" but for *all* possible
uses and users with full Clipper compatibility.
I don't doubt LetoDB can work in many situations and for many
users and it's a very nice effort and project on its own, but
cited issues are real ones. If we had disregarded such issues
in other places of Harbour, our project would be nowhere it is
now.

Viktor
