Wow!  I had never heard of this feature.  It dutifully blasted a huge
list of fonts to my terminal window.  Apparently the good old days
are still here.

We even already have a dependency on ImageMagick/GraphicsMagick for some
build configurations, so your idea is an intriguing one...

You're probably right, but I meant more that I hadn't heard much in the
way of complaints or demand from distribution packagers.
