TeX was not developed on Unix. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TeX#History To this day it seems a poor fit. Emacs wasn't either. Thus its trait of littering non-text files around on Unix due to the last line not ending in ASCII LF. -- Cheers, Ralph.
