Mark,

Thanks for the links!

Concerning the backup files, those get stored in the same directory as the book, so since that directory is already accessible, I wouldn't expect there to be any issue with writing backups there.

On the icon front, I think it originally just had the icon name, then it disappeared so I added the path, but that has never worked. I did edit from /current/ to /active/ this morning, and I'll be able to check out if it worked this afternoon. (this is on a work machine I haven't set up screensharing for just yet, so I need to be physically present to check up on that aspect.)

Regards,
Adrien

I'm certainly no expert on flatpak sandbox rules, but I thought
everything in ~/ was fair game.

By default everything has to use the portal to reach outside the sandbox, but
GnuCash has
the --filesystem=host permission, so it can access most locations on the host
without using
the portal. I believe that's necessary for the way GnuCash does backups when
saving, since
it doesn't request permission for each backup file it saves.

And all of that might offer me a clue about how to get a particular
flatpak .desktop file to properly use the GnuCash icon. Oddly, it did
the first time it was installed, and then disappeared upon subsequent
logins. I suspect this is because it doesn't have access to the icon
location. So I either need to copy it elsewhere, or, as you have done,
just link it. The kicker for me is where does the flatpak *want* to find
the icon?

That depends if it is a system or user install. For my user install, the icons
are installed in
~/.local/share/flatpak/exports/share/icons. The desktop file should work just
using the
icon name "org.gnucash.GnuCash", I don't know why it wouldn't.
