Perhaps more pressing problems, yes.  But the code already has a path to open 
files on all OSes; the point is only to make that path (potentially) distinct 
for the backups/logs and to make that configurable.  That does not really 
involve any OS-specific code, at least not beyond what must already be there.  
This is more about the configuration that sets the path than the OS interaction.
