Well it represents around 4 hours work now that I know the approach. I think with a bit more effort a SimpleFeatureReader SimpleFeatureWriter could also be introduced; the value proposition is not the same as with SimpleFeatureCollection so I did not push on. Let me ask the question from another direction - when is our deadline for FOSS4G materials? We may be able to delay things for the sake of easier patches.
