I absolutely love Thunderbird, but with one caveat... I love it because of its stability, how well it does IMAP, but most importantly, how configurable it is, both through the use of extensions, and manual edits to userChrome.css and user.js. I absolutely *loathe* the default U interface configuration. It took me about a week to figure out how to get 3.1 to where I liked it and the way I had had 2.x configured for ages... So, many people who may hate Thunderbird may just hate the default config (like I did), and may not realize how easily it is customized, so that they can have it 'their way'.
