Equally, they completely miss that the correct CFLAGS can, in some
situations, give a 500% speed improvement. It's one of the reasons
Gentoo used to utterly thrash Debian and Aurora in SSL benchmarks on
SPARC -- we allowed v9 code, whereas everyone else was shipping v7
binaries, which lead to emulated integer division.

They've since seen the error of their ways, so Debian ship a v9 openssl
as a separate package now. Which means we only utterly thrash them at
every other crypto benchmark :)
