So what's so special about your packages that you *need* a hack as ugly as 
eblits?

We killed them with fire in dev-lang/perl and are *very* happy with the 
result.
* the code size decreased a lot
* it's actually readable now
* and stable things stay stable for sure...

After looking through the dev-lang/perl code (which was mostly identical to 
what is used in autoconf/...) +1 +1 +1 for banning eblits globally.

"I like them" is not an argument.
