All, thinking about this further,
There may not be a need to remove /etc/init.d/functions.sh as long as it is understood that this is part of OpenRc, not the gentoo base. In other words, tools that must work when OpenRc is not present should source /lib/gentoo/functions.sh, NOT /etc/init.d/functions.sh. What are your thoughts on this approach? William
