Forgot to add that obviously, as already explained by Michał, distutils-r1 being (almost) the only demo out there to make use of this new eclass, most the of little things that would make it a success may still be missing because of the variety of ways python can be used in packages. I'd say these new eclasses need some more early adopters rather than reviewers (might be the same person though) to make sure it is actually usable, not just for distutils-r1.
