In theory, this should make Portage slightly more efficient since it
won't be performing the simultaneous operation of spewing to a file
and stdout.

Perhaps this will entice our most excellent user base to read the man
page from time to time to see what new features might crop up. Had I
known this option existed I would have set it a long time ago.
Although, now I am concerned that my IQ may be caused to decline since
I will not be soaking up learning via the osmotic process of blankly
staring at builds screaming by on my machine.

For those that want to see the build output in real time, for
development purposes or otherwise, it is trivial to change on a more
permanent basis via EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS or on a case by case basis by
adding --quiet-build=n to the command invocation.

Change is hard, but this one yields some boost in efficiency and noise
reduction. So cheerio.
