I fully agree that mentors should not be expected to gain full
understanding of the incubator's project.

The role of the mentor is to guide the project along Apache Ways, with
regards to community building and management, but also on ensuring releases
are done in an open source manner.

As part of an incubutor, I would however be grateful if at least one of the
mentors were capable in the foundational technology, e.g. in our case
Java/Maven/OSGi. Why? There is a strong tie between those and release
management, dependency management and licensing.

We have found that our champion had the right camera and has helped with
most of the bootstrapping, while mentors have had a wider view and can say
things like "Look at project X and how they do Y".
