Part of the process was to get a signed release from Cloudant (Adam Kocoloski, also a CouchDB PMC member), I think that covers the legal bits. All I've done is make the headers in the contribution the same as those in core couchdb (the short ASLv2 bit and no 'Copyright Cloudant' line).
