IIRC, there is no bullet-proof track record of how it was dealt with at OOo, and I myself am aware of several trademark grants that were not tied to anything.
So, again, it shouldn't affect the German association that much, as their name is changed anyways, but enforcing a strict trademark policy can get hard...
