This will break a great deal of existing c++
well this code is not valid C++03 code to begin with.
It is a gcc extension documented here:
http://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc/Deprecated-Features.html
C++0X seems like the right time to drop a deprecated feature, especially
since an alternative is now available.
