If we do not manage to answer such mails on gcc@ (due to ressource reasons I suppose) than I doubt we will do better on a separate mailinglist. The amount of traffic with "newbie" questions is not dominant on gcc@ or gcc-patches@ anyway, so I see little point in directing them elsewhere where the only thing they would probably get is even less attention.
