Hi,
At the moment, all reviewers and maintainers have to be appointed by the
Steering Committee. I wonder if we could add a second, more community-based
route: someone can be appointed as a reviewer or maintainer with the agreement
of a given number of people who already have an equal or greater remit.
This was the basic gist of one suggestion Richard E. had at the summit.
I'm generally in favor.
What I find is that I'm often struggling to find the time to shepherd
someone through the nomination process. As a result things take forever
and the process ultimately *looks* fairly broken to an outsider.
An additional suggestion from Richard E was to make more of this process
public, which I totally agree with.
