note that the patch at:

is not quite enough to fix this on Darwin - since we use :

 %{static|static-libgcc|static-libstdc++:%:replace-outfile(-lstdc++
libstdc++.a%s)}

to implement -static-libstadc++.

The relevant dir needs to be added as "-B" for this to work - unfortunately,
I'm not able to look at this right now..
