GNU Screen is my preferred solution to this "problem". Switch to copy mode with
C-a [ and scroll back for quite a while. Of course the length of the scrollback
is configurable.

Anyway, I'm another FVWM user not at all bothered by the presence of ~/.fvwm. I
don't see any reason to add an extra TAB into the mix with another
subdirectory.
