I was talking last week with a friend who has retired from a long career
with the FBI. We were discussing how all these different forces have been
dispatched to D.C., and essentially none of them are trained in crowd
control. He, like me, suspects it's only a matter of time before another
Kent State happens. Cops in major cities usually have squads trained in
crowd control with appropriate equipment. Smaller cities do not. And you
couple that with 19-year-old kids, many of whom have little familiarity
with guns of any kind, and bad things are bound to happen. I have not been
able to find out if cops in Albuquerque or even the State Police have
appropriate training. I doubt the same thing about our National Guard,
although that training might be coming.
