On deploying the National Guard:

My first memories in Aurora Ohio was all the "army trucks" running up and
down our street - We were 11 miles just north of Kent State. I was 2 yrs 2
mos old on that day and the nightly news was filled with the for the next
two years, vietnam always in the background and then watergate/nixon
resigning which i have clear memories around the TV.. My uncle and aunt
lived with us as they were still in highschool as my grandparents died in
separate accidents and my dad who was 20 years their senior was raising
them. I hung out with my uncle and aunt and their "hippie" friends at the
lake behind the house (more like being babysat). Only later could
disentangle the events. To me they were one big mush of young adults with
anger, fear, disappointment and complete distrust in the reasons we use our
"army men" and all the lies. And the older people arguing with the younger
people on the news and in my neighborhood.

Crazy that that same uncle that was 17 on the day of Kent State and waiting
for his lottery number with his friends is now one of the most vocal Maga
supporters in my family at the age of 78.

And that deployment of the National Guard was with the request of the
governor. We're beyond that in California and DC now. My worry is
competence of the admin or its lac but the willingness and support of a
huge block of Americans - and not just the crazies. 85% of my family
support the general actions.
