Ask questions like “What risks can you see in an approach where one was to ..?”
Alternatively, “I’m concerned about the correctness of this code. Can you think 
of ways to test it? Are there cases that aren’t handled?” 

Works with conflict-averse and civil people too. It turns out that many people 
are raised with the strange idea that their beliefs should be respected, and 
represent more than just temporary propositions.
