The cloud solves the physical problem. For example, if the house or office burns down, the extra mountable disk isn't going to help (unless you've gone to some extraordinary extents involving drilling holes in fireproof boxes or burying your extra disks in your apocalypse shelter under your house ... or perhaps on a wifi-enabled drone that continually circles above you).
