The tktools like tkmedit and tksurfer are more-or-less deprecated and we do sometimes get user reports about not accepting keyboard input. However, freeview should work fine as we use Centos 7 platform for our testing and have not seen any such issues for that application. Is it possible for you to test this issue on another machine in your environment and verify it exists and more than one machine?
