what kind of animation? You should be able to do this with a tcl script
in tksurfer, saving consecutive tiffs from slightly different viewpoints.
See the wiki page on the tksufer tcl commands.

Hi,
sorry to bring an off topic, but I could not find a solution myself.
I was asked to prepare a short fly-by animation of a ?h.pial for a TV who
interviewed my boss last week. Would you have any recommendation on how to do
that? The ?h.pial is a mesh, which is ideal, because the surface of the pial
would be nice and smooth. I tried to export aparc+aseg to Analyze and read it
into OsiriX, where I can easily produce the animation, but the surface was
not smooth, as one would expect. So that is not the solution.
Has anyone experience with this kind of task?
Thanks,
Martin
