Yes, but HP literally does this with their "FreeDOS" laptops, so that
was the example I was referencing when I said "used on some HP
laptops." The HP "FreeDOS" laptop doesn't boot FreeDOS directly
because of UEFI; instead, it boots a minimal Linux, which then boots
QEMU, which loads FreeDOS.

But you are correct that you can use this same method on other systems too.
