There isn't really anything to keep, it is a Linux program. And I recall that there were issues with at least the early attempts to port this Linux app to plain DOS IIRC, like causing corruption at least with long filenames.

As mentioned, a proper chkdsk that supports FAT32 is a less than trivial upgrade, as FAT32 is much more complex than just updating the math...
