OK, thank you. There is an error number list in the Borland win32 Programmer's Reference. Is that the relevant one (when Windows is the OS)? Only some of the errors seem to be in accordance with the corresponding numbers in the FreePascal error list.
If this is a windows specific error code: have you tried "net helpmsg 87" ?
"net helpmsg ###" (replace ### with the error number) gives you *some* information on windows specific error codes, although the explanations are not always useful ;-( (but may be a starting point for google)
OTOH, error code 87 may also be some error code specific to the application you mentioned...
