I wanted to create some getting started examples too because it has taken me a while to understand how to put all the pieces in Flex together. I think it would be helpful to see examples and would even welcome review and discussion on it. I think we can and should make it clear that the example is "...created by the example author and does not reflect the official position of the Apache Flex project (unless it does)."
What I would like to see. Someone wants to create or contribute an example. They go to the wiki and write a page on it. If a file attachment is needed they add it to the contribs/sample folder or whiteboard area or better yet a whiteboard area in the contribs folder, etc. Then that person posts a message to the mailing list to let people know about it. It gets reviewed and or critiqued. At this point they can be done as it might just be a simple code example. But if they want or someone else wants to they can ask it be mentioned on the blog. Then a member of the team can request a vote and if it passes they create the post pointing back to the wiki page.
