I don't know why they use the word "monochrome" whatsoever, since they don't mention specifically what colors to use in the palette. I take it they can be anything, just like they can for PNG, TIFF and QuickTime. It would of course be nice to have a Media Player that actually is able to play raw 1-bit AVI files, but it seems they've overlooked that part for some reason.
