I answered your technical question. For the record, this ABI compat feature ended up unused. It also causes lots of complexity in other areas. For example, FFmpeg symbols had to be added in a way that don't interfere with Libav ABI. So we had FourCC codec IDs and trivial struct accessors all over the place.
