I must admit I don't know any such difference; this is one of many things that would be useful to have in comments or the commit message (many such effects have different variations under similar names). But I do not believe this is relevant to the artifacts in the center, or the staircase effect on the horizontal white lines -- no matter what you call an filter, they are not inherent to the effect. Both are much less pronounced than in the previous patch set, but still present.
