Yay. That's exactly what I do, except I've been storing the package selections to floppy so's I don't have to reselect them next time. Generally the only pre-selections (or group selections) I choose are Documentation and KDE Workstation. Everything else I do by flat individual list selection. BTW, I installed 8.2 last week.
