I suspect a hardware problem might have caused the partition
table corruption. I would think that different hardware would be a
significant factor. 6 months ago I built a Athlon system (oc'd to
1.55Ghz) on a VIA KT133a chipset motherboard admist all the hoopla
over IDE corruption bugs. So I created a 700mb zip file in Windoze
and burned it to a CD using Linux. Then I transfered the file to my
Windoze fat32 partition and it opened and checked out without error.
Same thing moving and/or copying back'n forth between my Mandrake
(ReiserFS) partitions and fat32 ... no problems. I've also done the
same with 50,000+ .jpg seperate files (the whole directory),
transfering them back'n forth from RFS to fat32 with no problems.
In 6 months now, I've had no problems burning CD's with Linux. All of
these operations involve large cross ide (ide0 <> ide1) and RFS <>
fat32 transfers.
