Hi, Benjamin,
Go to KDE control center, go to "Sound", "Sound server" and uncheck the 
"Start aRts sound server at KDE inicialization".
Restart KDE and then try to run RealPlayer or any other program. Running 
sndconfig must be not neccesary.
