why not try it?  if done properly, you can switch kernels anytime, have them
both setup in Grub or lilo,,,

can't hurt to try it...

You would probably be better switching over to RH7.1 fully.  While you
probably can use the RH kernel package, there's no telling which other
capabilities you'll lose.
