actually, I have Samba installed fine : 4 ethernet cards + 1 Hub + cable

(*) where it *was* an independent PC with modem and the access to the
Internet well done.

Basically the errors was in :

* Win98 : Incorrect parameters at TCP/IP protocol :
      DNS erratical assignation and host badly defined

* commands ipchains unknown or badly defined
      # ipchains  xxxxxxxxxx
