use one of the text based browsers to convert it.. (lynx, links, elinks,
etc ).

you can use them as noted previously, or

$ elinks --dump http://www.december.com/html/demo/table.html
or
$ cat test.html | elinks --dump

$ echo "$html_source" | elinks --dump

etc..
