When I say goes into transit, it could be either for filling a hold or
returning to its owning library. As soon as an item gets checked in, our system
puts it into an "In Transit" status (unless it's checked in at its destination
library, then it goes into reshelving status I believe). Canceling the transit
in either instance gives us the same issue of an unchangeable "Canceled
Transit" status.

I suppose our reason for not using Mark Damaged is due to how our work flow is
set up. Currently, staff knows to send items to "Bindery" when they need a new
jacket, new DVD cover, etc. Since it hasn't been procedure for staff to use the
"Mark Damaged" function - except as a work around for cancelling transit - I'm
just looking to see if there is a way to make it so they can cancel the transit
and change the item status without needing the extra step of marking the item
as damaged.

If there isn't a way to do this, it's certainly worth looking into changing
procedure for our staff to consistently use "Mark Damaged" but I was just
looking for a setting that may or may not exist that I haven't found yet!

Thanks for the help!

You don't often get email from [email protected]. Learn why this is
important<https://aka.ms/LearnAboutSenderIdentification>
To clarify, when you say you check it in and it goes into transit, do you mean
it's going into transit to fill a hold or to return to its owning library?

Is there a reason why you don't use the Mark Damaged option for this?

Hello!

My library is looking at streamlining our process for handling damaged items.
Here's the issue we are running into:

If an item is checked in, it automatically goes into "In Transit" status. If we
cancel the transit, it goes into "Canceled Transit" status. If we want to send
it to our bindery, we typically want to change it to a "Bindery" status so it
can't be held, etc. However, the "Canceled Transit" status doesn't allow us to
manually change the item status in either the item status menu nor the holdings
editor. To clarify, if an item has the "Canceled Transit" status, the item
status dropdown is greyed out.

Our current workaround is to mark the item as discard/weed, which we can then
go in and manually change to "bindery" however some of our newer staff may have
issues with learning this workaround.

My questions is this, is there a way in the settings to permit certain item
statuses - in this case "Canceled Transit" - to become changeable. If I wanted
to go from "Canceled Transit" to "Bindery" is there a way to make it happen?

Thanks!
