Hi Dave etc, As you probably know by now - Romain Dumas who won the world's Pikes Peak record in 2018 with the VW IDR 7min 57sec is returning *this* year in a Ford Lightning EV F150 - but since the truck has the aero of a brick, I doubt he'll beat his previous record. VW spent $20M on the 4-wheel carbon fiber MW per wheel computer controlled car with vector steering (after diesel-gate, VW president said you *will* win this race, gave the team a blank check & told them to find the best Pikes Peak driver). I'll be there (or be square) at the start line as usual with the DEVC (Denver Electric Vehicle Council - member since 79'). I've been going since 1979, used to stay at Hansen's Corner or Engineers Corner by MM-9, but since fencing in 2013 - I've gravitated to the start line to meet the drivers etc. The EV's *don't care* about 1/2 air on top of Pikes Peak and are now faster than gassers (last gasp putting 3-turbos in series but still couldn't touch the VW-IDR).
Consumer Reports really liked the Hyundai Ioniq-5, might be my next EV if one of my 3 (21' Tesla-Y, 20' Bolt, 13' Leaf) poops out. The Tesla-Y has 92K miles on it after just several years, drive it EVerywhere, Florida, NY, Beach etc. & take it to greenie-weenie EVents (EarthDay etc.). We like the 12K+ super-chargers vs 4K Electrify America chargers for others. Hopefully the " Inflation Reduction Act" from the Biden administration will get Electrify America fast chargers at least on par to 12K in the next few years to make other long range EV's (like the Ioniq-5 etc) more viable for long trips. Impressively, the $67K electric N's 3.0-second rip to 60 mph is just three tenths of a second behind a 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 PDK. *** "... the Ioniq 5 N is quicker to 60 mph than the BMW i4 M50 and Tesla Model 3 Performance and also just as quick to 60 as a 2023 Lucid Air Touring, with an as-tested price of $128k, that packs an extra 340 pound-feet of torque. "The N's 11.1-second quarter-mile at 123 mph is impressive too. That beats any AMG-badged EV we've tested, and it's a tenth behind the 834-hp Tesla Cybertruck Beast's time of 11.0 seconds flat. Against our favorite gas- powered hot hatches, the much heavier Ioniq 5 N destroys their quarter-mile times: Honda Civic Type R (13.5 seconds at 106 mph), Toyota GR Corolla Morizo Edition (13.0 seconds at 106 mph), and the Volkswagen Golf R with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic (12.6 ticks at 110 mph)."
